Collections

Our library collection includes approximately 80,000 books, over 300 magazines and newspapers, and over 2,000 audiovisual items for both adults and children.

A large selection of reading materials for children at all reading levels, including alphabet and counting books, nursery rhymes, easy readers, picture books, graphic novels, books accompanied by audiocassettes or CDs, junior fiction and non-fiction, and folklore are located in the children's section of the library.

A special section for teens, our Teen Corner, is devoted to both leisure reading and homework support for teens. The collection includes hardcover and paperback fiction, graphic novels, as well as teen magazines and non-fiction books.

Audio-Visual Collection

The audio-visual collection includes materials for both children and adults including language learning CDs and audiocassettes, talking books on audiocassette and compact disc, DVDs and videos, music CDs and CD-ROMs. Children's books accompanied by a CD(s) or audiocassette(s) are located in the Young People's department.

Graphic Novels

A graphic novel is a full-length story in the form of a comic strip that is published as a book. The Library offers several collections of graphic novels and comic books for the reading pleasure of children, teens and adults. The children's and teen collection is located in the Young People's section of the library.

Parents' Collection

Of interest to parents, the library has a special collection of books on all aspects of children's reading and literacy. This section is located in the Young People's department.

Large Print Collection

The adult collection also includes fiction and non-fiction books in large print for persons with vision problems.

Foreign Language Collection

Dutch, German, and Spanish books and magazines for both adults and children are also available for borrowing and are located in the adult section.

Local History

Local historical information and newspaper articles about Beaconsfield are available for in-library consultation. Certain books, notably "Beaconsfield and Beaurepaire: a chronicle of the development of the City of Beaconsfield and the District of Beaurepaire' by Robert L. Baird may be borrowed, or is available for sale ($20) at the Circulation Counter.
