Herb Linder Annex (Lawn Bowling Club)

History

Herb Linder was Beaconsfield's first Director of Recreation and Parks, working from 1969 to 1978, during a period of rapid growth and development in our community.

Various citizen's committees were formed at that time to survey the population and study the needs for expanded leisure services in the community. Herb Linder worked relentlessly with these volunteer committees and Council to develop new recreational services and facilities that reflected the wish of Beaconsfield's residents.

Most of the parks, fields and facilities were built in the 1970's under his guidance. One of his major accomplishments was the opening of the Recreation Centre (arena, pool and gym) in 1975.

He also helped to found the Beaconsfield Lawn Bowling Club and was instrumental along with Bob Gandey, in obtaining a "New Horizons' grant for the construction of the City Hall Annex, which is used as the Lawn Bowling Club House.

Following his death, shortly after his retirement in 1978, the Lawn Bowling Club inaugurated the Herb Linder Invitational Tournament. This prestigious, annual tournament serves as a testament to his commitment and the unending gratitude of the Lawn Bowling Club members.
