Championship grant

The City of Beaconsfield will give financial support to young resident athletes who have won the privilege of competing in a National or International Championship.   The purpose of the grant policy is to establish the basic principles and participation criteria by which Beaconsfield athletes participating in National or International Championships are recognized financially.

A request for financial support to attend a National or International Championship is available at the Culture and Leisure Department and must be presented to the Director of Culture and Leisure with complete information.       

Among the qualifications, athletes must be Beaconsfield residents, age 17 or under or, age 25 and under and a full time student.

Cultural grant

The City of Beaconsfield will provide financial support to Accredited Cultural Youth Groups that provide services to the community. Certain cultural groups catering to youth, provide valuable services otherwise not available. By providing financial assistance, the City enables the group to operate services that are economically accessible to local youth. 

Recognized Cultural organizations may make a written request to the Director Culture & Leisure. 

The Director Culture and Leisure will assess needs for financial support in different areas.

Cultural grants for youth

The City of Beaconsfield will give financial support to young residents who travel to cultural events. The purpose of the grant policy is to establish the basic principles and participation criteria by which young Beaconsfield residents can attend major cultural events or gatherings.

The individual must make a request for financial support to the Director of Culture and Leisure prior to the event describing the event, the location; indicating the selection process; providing a proof of residency; providing information on affiliations to any local or regional clubs pertinent to this application; and demonstrating the costs associated with attending. 

The Director of Culture and Leisure will recommend to Beaconsfield Council approval of financial support according to the set qualifications criteria  such as being a Beaconsfield resident, age 17 or under; or age 25 and under and a full time student;  registered with a recognized Beaconsfield cultural Association or group etc. The grant of a maximum of $400 per individual can be awarded to be applied toward travel to the event.

Hall of honours

The City of Beaconsfield will officially recognize citizens who achieve athletic distinction and induct them into Beaconsfield Athlete’s Hall of Honour.  To recognize these athletes, a “Hall of Honour” has been established to provide a public display of the top achievements of our citizens based on set guidelines and subject to approval by the Culture and Leisure Department and Beaconsfield City Council. 

Association members – Recognized Community Associations are asked to notify, in writing, the Beaconsfield Culture and Leisure Department of any teams or individuals which meet the criteria and who they feel qualify to be inducted in the Beaconsfield Athlete’s Hall of Honour. 

Beaconsfield residents – residents who meet the criteria warranting membership in the Beaconsfield Athlete’s Hall of Honour through participation as an individual or though a non-recognized group/association are asked to notify, in writing, Culture and Leisure Department of their achievement.

Honour roll book

Many residents distinguish themselves through their contributions to the many aspects of community life such as the library, socio-cultural, sports and recreation, education, religion, commerce, health and welfare. The City of Beaconsfield will recognize the names of these residents who have made a significant contribution to community life, in an Honour Roll Book. 

A deceased individual, who has made a contribution through volunteerism or a cause deemed significant by other residents, must be nominated by petition from 25 Beaconsfield families who are not related to the nominee.   The nominating residents must provide written biographical information and a photo of the individual. This must be approved by City Council.

Bourse d'étude commémorative

Established in 1996 in memory of Reverend Frank Toope and his wife Jocelyn, these scholarships are designed to highlight the positive role young people play in our community. Nominated by local school boards, candidates must be city residents and graduates of a public high school. They must demonstrate excellent academic performance, active participation in student life and sports, and involvement in the community at large through volunteer work. 

Bursaries are divided equally between the Commission Scolaire Marguerite-Bourgeoys and the Lester B. Pearson School Board. The City of Beaconsfield will contact these school boards annually for nominations.

Students eligible for these scholarships are residents of Beaconsfield; graduates of public high schools under the jurisdiction of one of the two school boards serving the City; have excelled academically; participated in student life and sports; contributed through volunteer work to the well-being of the community.

Each recipient will receive a bursary of one thousand dollars ($1, 000), along with a commemorative plaque and a family leisure card for one year, to be presented by the mayor, or his or her representative.
