Precautions needed regarding air quality due to forest fires

A Special Air Quality Statement is currently in effect for the Montreal area by Environment Canada due to smoke from the wildfire in the Canadian Prairies causing poor air quality and reduced visibilities today and possibly on Saturday. 

Those most likely to suffer health effects from air pollution are:

  • People aged 65 and older
  • Pregnant people
  • Infants and young children
  • People with an existing illness or chronic health condition
  • People who work outdoors

For people in these categories, the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS) recommends:

  • Avoid outdoor activities;
  • Make sure you have access to your medication and follow the action plan agreed with your treating physician;
  • Contact Info-Santé by dialling 811, if any discomfort persists or worsens.
