Municipal elections will be held this fall. Mayoral and councillor positions for the City’s 6 electoral districts will be filled for a 4-year term. You can start preparing now, whether as a voter, candidate, or by working during the election. 
 
It is important to understand the municipal environment in order to actively participate in your local democratic life. 
 
Here you will find all the necessary information about the 2025 general elections. We invite you to consult this page regularly as it will be updated and expanded as the electoral period progresses.

Who can vote?

Conditions to be permitted to vote

To vote, you must be a Beaconsfield elector and be registered on the official list of electors for the November 2, 2025 election. If you are not registered on the list of electors, you will not be allowed to vote.

You are eligible to be registered on the list of electors if on polling day if:

  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You are a Canadian citizen
  • You are not under legal guardianship
  • You have not been found guilty of an electoral offence in the past five years

Also, on November 2, 2025, you must fulfill one of the two following conditions:

  • You are domiciled in Beaconsfield and have lived in Québec for at least the past 6 months

OR

  • You have owned property or occupied a business establishment in Beaconsfield for at least 45 days

NOTE: If your principal residence is not located in Beaconsfield and you would like to exercise your right to vote, you must file a request for registration or a proxy application, as the case may be, with the Returning Officer.

How to vote

There are preliminary steps that take place before the vote. Please ensure that you complete any steps required of you during the process.

Notice of Registration or Absence of Registration 

In mid-October, you will receive a registration notice from the Office of the Returning Officer.  

This notice will indicate the names of the voters registered at each address in Beaconsfield.  

Have you noticed any errors or omissions on the notice, or are you not listed as a registered voter?  

If there is an error or omission on the notice, or your name does not appear as a registered voter, please present yourself to the Board of Revisors, or, new this year, submit a request remotely. The schedule and process will be communicated later on the website and in the notice. 

The Board of Revisors meets to receive requests for revision at Beaconsfield City Hall, located at 303 Beaconsfield Boulvecard.   

The Board of Revisors allows a person whose name does not appear on the list of electors to register. You can also request modifications to your registration (spelling mistakes, change of address in Beaconsfield). You can also request that a registered voter be struck off.   

For a request for registration on the electoral list, you must present two pieces of identification. The first must indicate your birthday and the second must indicate the names and the address of the person requesting registration. You will also need to indicate the previous home address of the person requesting registration.  

The Board of Revisors can insist that the person making a request provides any proof that is necessary to make their decision.

Reminder card

A reminder card will be sent to each voter who appears on the official list of electors. 

This card will indicate:  

  • The names of the candidates 

  • The location of polling and advance polling stations, voting at the Office of the Returning Officer, and the day of the vote 

  • The polling station hours 

  • Identification required to vote 

Voters are asked to keep this card and bring it with them to the polling station, as well as to present a piece of ID. Presenting the reminder card is not obligatory, but it will speed up processing.

What to bring to vote:

  • One of the following pieces of identification:  
    • Québec driver’s license  

    • Québec Medicare card   

    • Canadian passport  

    • Indian status card,  

    • Canadian Forces ID  

  • Your reminder card (optional)

At the polls

On voting day, an election employee at reception will welcome you. Show them your reminder card or tell them your name and present a piece of ID. This person will tell you where to go.  

  • At the polling station state your name and address and show your ID 
  • Receive your ballot and pencil 
  • Proceed to the voting booth 
  • Vote by marking an “X” or check beside the candidate of your choice. You must choose one candidate only on each ballot. 
  • Fold the ballot paper and return to the person at the table. They will tell you how to put your ballot paper in the box on the table.

NEW: Vote at home (mobile polling station)

Available to any voter with reduced mobility or health limitations unable to get to their polling station for health reasons living in Beaconsfield.  

Applications must be made verbally or in writing by the voter or their caregiver no later than October 21, 2025.

A single caregiver registered in the same part of the list of electors as the sector of the mobile polling station may also vote. 

The eligibility criteria will be specified in the Public Election Notice.  

Making a request to vote at a mobile polling station

To make a request for a mobile polling station, you must make a request to the Returning Officer at the latest Thursday, October 16, 2025.

Becoming a candidate

If you wish to run for a seat on the municipal council, you must be eligible and file a nomination paper as well as all of the required supporting documents.

The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec has provided an informational guide for individuals who wish to run for office entitled “Running as a Candidate in the Municipal Elections” (French only - English version to come).

The official list of candidates for the November 2, 2025 election can be viewed here. The nomination period ends October 3 at 4:30 p.m. 

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible to run as a candidate in the 2025 municipal elections, under the Act respecting elections and referendums in municipalities, you must: 

  1. Have the right to be entered on the municipal list of electors 
  2. Reside on the territory of the municipality at the time of filing your nomination 

In order to have the right to be registered on the list of electors, a person must be an elector in the municipality 

How to submit a nomination for the November 2, 2025 municipal election:

We recommend contacting the Returning Officer by email at elections@beaconsfield.ca or by phone at 514 428-4400 (extension 4421) before filing your candidacy declaration in order to obtain information concerning the documents you must provide as well as the steps to follow.

Nominations, including your candidacy declaration and all accompanying documents  must be submitted between September 19 and October 3 at 4:30 p.m. to the Office of the Returning Officer at 303 Beaconsfield Boulevard. 

The Office of the Returning Officer is open Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and exceptionally on October 3 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

In order to submit your candidacy, you must fill out the following form accompanied by all supporting documents: Nomination Paper (SM-29-FIN). Available upon request: elections@beaconsfield.ca.

Authorization request

Before September 19, 2025: As of now, to present request for authorization, before submitting your candidacy declaration you must fill in the following forms:  

You must also collect support signatures from voters in your municipality . You still need to submit the nomination form by the official deadline.

Starting September 19, 2025: In order to present a request for authorization at the same time as you deposit a candidacy declaration, you can check the appropriate box on the Candidacy Declaration form. The signatures in support of your candidacy declaration are valid for your authorization request.

Finally, you must make an appointment with the Returning Officer via email at elections@beaconsfield.ca or by phone at 514 428-4400 (ext. 4421) in order to complete and sign all documents.

Election financing

Authorization is mandatory for independent candidates who intend to solicit or collect contributions, incur expenses, take out loans, or use campaign materials in order to promote their candidacy.

Working at the elections

Interested in working at the municipal elections in Beaconsfield?  

Several positions will be available for: 

  • Advance polling (October 26) 
  • Board of Revisors sessions (October 14, 16, 20) 
  • Voting at the Office of the Returning Officer (October 27) 
  • Election Day (November 2) 

You should also be available in the weeks leading up to the elections as training sessions will be held in the weeks before.

Positions and responsibilities

All positions require effective communication in both official languages. 

Deputy Returning Officer  

The deputy returning officer manages the polling station. They ensure the set-up and smooth operation of the vote. They address the voters and provide them with their ballot. Finally, they tally the votes and transmit the results.  

This position involves long periods of time spent seated. 

Election Clerk 

The election clerk records that a voter has presented themselves to vote on the list of electors. They assist the Deputy Returning Officer. They log particular situations into the vote register as they present themselves.  

This position involves long periods of time spent seated.  

Room Supervisor 

The room supervisor ensures that the polling stations run smoothly. They communicate regularly with the returning officer. They coordinate all the activities of the day and answer the questions of other employees. They ensure the respect of laws and directives by allowing voters to exercise their right to vote and assisting the deputy returning officer and election clerk. They exclude individuals unauthorized to vote, take care of lines, and assist with circulation within the polling locations. They are assisted by PRIMO’s and assistant-PRIMOs.  

This position requires leadership and diplomacy.   

PRIMO (Information and Order Clerk

This position complements that of the Room Supervisor. The PRIMO ensures the accessibility of the voting location and communicates any situation that could require intervention. The PRIMO welcome voters and ensures that they are admissible to vote.  

This position involves long periods spent standing.   

Assistant-PRIMO

This person is the reception clerk and assists the PRIMO with the polling station’s accessibility.  

This position involves long periods spent standing. 

Reception Clerk (IT)

This person welcomes, identifies, and directs voters by reading the bar code on reminder cards and finding the section and the line number for which the voter is registered.  

This position involves long periods of time spent seated. 

Identity Verification Officer  

This person confirms the identity of voters unable to present a piece of admissible ID, verifies their identity, fills out an attestation of identity, and ensures their registration on the list of electors.  

This position involves long periods of time spent seated.  

Chief Supervisor 

Under the direction of the Returning Officer, the chief supervisor patrols the exterior of the voting grounds. They will move between polling sites as necessary over the course of the day.  

Revisors – Board of Revisors  

The Revisors make all necessary changes to the list of electors. They handle requests to update and modify the list of electors, analyze these requests, verify the validity of supporting documents, and render decisions. They work in collaboration with the revising officers and the secretary.  

This position involves long periods of time spent seated.  

Secretary (IT) Board of Revisors 

This person is responsible for drafting notices of meetings as well as decisions of the board of revisors. The secretary makes changes to the list of electors and assists the board of revisors in their work.   

This position requires IT skills, functional bilingualism, and can entail long periods spent sitting.   

Revising Officers  

Revising officers move around the city to meet electors in order to gather information necessary to the list of electors. They work in collaboration with revisors and always in teams of two.  

This position requires travelling within the municipality. Mileage is reimbursed at the rate in force for City employees.  

Reception Clerk (Revision) 

The reception clerk welcomes and provides information to voters who present themselves to the revision board. They manage wait lines, directions, and circulation in the room,    

Substitute 

The substitute is trained to be able to replace, on short notice, any person who is unable to present themselves on any day designated in the elections calendar. They must arrive at City Hall one hour before the opening of the polling station and are remunerated for a wait period of approximately 2 hours. If their services are not required, they may leave to return to their personal occupations. If their services are required, they are remunerated according to the rate in force for the position that they occupy. 

Polling results

Election results will be available online on Sunday, November 2 starting at 8 p.m. 

The Council Chamber at City Hall will also be open for candidates and the public to view results.
