Keep cool during the extreme heat

Environment Canada has issued a special weather forecast indicating that a period of extreme heat will hit the Greater Montreal area until Wednesday.

Air-conditioned buildings

The Library and Recreation Centre can be used as a cooldown area during opening hours.

The Recreation Centre's mezzanine is air-conditioned for those needing to cool off, with tables and chairs available.

*Only the public skating activity will be available, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. No other services or activities will be offered, and all other recreation facilities will remain closed.

Public skating at the arena

To give everyone a break from the heat, the arena will be opening its doors with a public skating session from 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24. Lace up your skates and cool off at the new rink!

Community pools

In addition, community pools will open their doors to Beaconsfield residents on the following days and times. 

Proof of residency is required. Entrance is limited to the maximum allowable bathers.

Park Briarwood splashpad is open all day, every day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. 

Reducing risk during periods of extreme heat

To reduce risks during periods of extreme heat and avoid overheating, here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Stay hydrated (6 to 8 glasses of water a day for an adult)
  • Go to cool or air-conditioned places for a few hours (shopping centres, libraries, cinemas, etc.)
  • Avoid alcoholic beverages
  • Limit physical activity
  • Wear light clothing

Seniors, people with mental health conditions as well as people with chronic illnesses such as diabetes or cardiovascular, respiratory, renal and neurological conditions must be especially vigilant, as well as children under the age of 4.
