A major milestone for this flagship revitalization project at the Centennial site
The City of Beaconsfield officially launched the construction of the Beaconsfield Cultural Centre on June 22, signalling the transition from a shared vision to a tangible reality.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place at Centennial Park, attended by Mayor Martin St-Jean, the Honourable Francis Scarpaleggia, Member of Parliament for Lac-Saint-Louis , Gregory Kelley, Member of the National Assembly for Jacques-Cartier, as well as numerous donors and ambassadors of the Cultural Centre Campaign.
The result of a collaboration between the City, its government partners and a deeply engaged community, the Beaconsfield Cultural Centre is set to become a landmark destination dedicated to culture, creativity, and community life. Its doors are expected to open in 2028.
"Today is a significant moment. We are here to break ground on a project that has been imagined, discussed, planned, and supported by our community for many years. It reflects the very values of Beaconsfield: creativity, civic engagement, sharing, and a sense of belonging. Today, that vision moves from concept to reality," said Beaconsfield Mayor Martin St-Jean.
"This visionary project represents an exciting chapter in Beaconsfield's evolution as a community. The Centre will open up new opportunities for citizens to assemble and participate in recreational and cultural activities as well as to enjoy the spectacular West Island waterfront. As the federal representative for Beaconsfield, I am pleased to see all levels of government working together in support of our community's quality of life," said the Honourable Francis Scarpaleggia, Member of Parliament for Lac-Saint-Louis.
In addition to the library, the Cultural Centre will offer versatile spaces dedicated to the arts, learning, and community gatherings. Designed to be inclusive and accessible, it will enrich the local cultural landscape while showcasing the exceptional natural surroundings of the Centennial Marina site, which is located next to Centennial Park.
This project is made possible through government grants, the City's park funds, and generous donations from the community. With an estimated cost of $28.6 million, it represents a significant investment in the cultural and community future of Beaconsfield.
The Beaconsfield Cultural Centre Campaign is currently in its community phase and has raised $1.8 million towards its $2 million goal to date. Those wishing to support the project are invited to visit beaconsfield.ca/campaign.
